This prestigious lifetime honor is awarded by the ISBE to recognize outstanding contributions to bionic science and engineering. Candidates must be nominated by current ISBE Fellows. This effort overcame key technical bottlenecks, led to the world's first intelligent testing instrument for liquid gating, and contributed to the first national standard in this field. Selected among the Top 10 Advances in Metamaterials of 2026 in China, this work demonstrates the leading-edge and innovative strength of liquid gating technology for intelligent metamaterials and interfacial materials.

At the meeting, Professor Li Xiaohong, President of the current Council, made a work report on behalf of the current Council. Subsequently, the General Assembly elected 54 members as the directors of the new board of directors, and a new board of directors was elected through the Council meeting. Professor Hou was elected as the president, nine Vice Presidents were Zhong Wei, Shi Hongmei, Zhu Xiaoqin, Zhu Xuan, Wang Weilei, Shen Zhe, Wang Huiqiong, Zhang Defu and Lian Wei, and Lian Wei was appointed as the secretary general, eight Vice Secretaries were Zhang Hongliang, Guo Jie, Xiao Ningyao, Meng Mengmeng, Guo Shumin, Cai Xiuying, Li Guochao and Ouyang Ruyi. Our recent research work has been selected as the Front Cover of the Inaugural Issue of Interdisciplinary Materials. Liquid gating membrane is a new kind of structural materials, response to an applied force as a pressure-driven system. To address the long-term high consumption caused by traditional “experimental trial method”, a machine learning algorithm is trained to effectively integrate material structure, composition and performance. This cover shows machine learning technology, offers a promising approach to exchange negligible machine resources for valuable researcher time, thus accelerating and optimizing the development of liquid gating technology.See details: Click here.

Professor Hou was awarded with the 2nd "National Scientific Innovation and Advancement Award" certificate and invited to participate in the activities on the National Science and Technology Workers' Day 2020 in Beijing on May 30. "National Scientific Innovation and Advancement Award" is another important science and technology award approved by China after the "National Natural Science Award", "National Technology Invention Award" and "National Science and Technology Progress Award". It is an important part and supplement of the national science and technology award system, and effective link between the national science and technology awards and national major talent programs, which is a science and technology talent award second only to“Top Science and Technology Award of China”.

Prof. Hou made a summary speech and visited the production workshop of Bailin Water Purification Technology Co., Ltd.. Our group members Yunmao Zhang and Wei Lv participated in this event.

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of IUPAC and the International Year of the Periodic Table, IUPAC and IYCN announce the creation of a Periodic Table of Younger Chemists. Beginning in July 2018 and ending in July 2019 at the World Chemistry Congress and IUPAC General Assembly, IUPAC has unveiled and honored a diverse group of 118 outstanding younger chemists from around the world who in embody the mission and core values of IUPAC. The resulting periodic table highlights the diversity of careers, creativity, and dedication of the young chemists leading us into the next century.
